RMPC: Hi Everyone,
I may have put this in the wrong section but....it pertains to all 67 - 72 and earlier Ford F250 4x4's after 1959. Why the heck do all the major parts stores, show F250's having a Dana/Spicer 21 transfer case? Everyone knows that the Dana 21 was a single speed case used in the F100 4x4 trucks and the Dana 24 was a 2 speed unit, used in F250's until sometime in '73 when it was replaced by the NP205. Why doesnt anyone list parts for this thing when there were millions of them produced between 1959 and 1972?
Does anyone out there have an exploded view of this transfer case that you can e mail me, or know of a parts store that won't look at me like I'm stupid when I ask for bearings and seals for this model? I've tried Car Quest, O Reilly and Napa. I think the main problem is their computer systems don't go back that far and the parts guys are too lazy to dig out an old book.

When I looked for parts I had to ask for spicer 24 not a Dana or I found nothing at all. Just go with a 205 and save yourself headache if you have problems with the 24 other than it leaking. The gasket, seal and bearing kit is easy to get but hard parts have to be tracked down most of the time and are quite costly.

That person can find a exploded view in a Ford shop manual. I believe I have one at home.
If it is an easy fix it would be better to keep it, but if it going to take time and money to fix might as well the 205 swap.

the 205 swap. is that a divorced case, or a married one? don't you have to change the front diff to a HP if its a married case, to keep good driveline angles?

The 205 swap is divorced and bolts up just like the 24. With the married your probably right but the married setups have a a double cardan joint to help out also.
