I have a 1970 f250 4x that I want to put 1979 drivetrain under. The drivetrain is out of a 79 1 ton, dana 60 front and rear.
I have only had the 70 for a few months and finally got the thing running
I have a set of 35/12.5/16.5 tires and wheels from the 79. I put these on the 70 and they rub in a couple of spots. This has me worried that this whole plan of changing axles, springs, steering, and etc is all not going to work. Should I put a body lift on the truck?
I plan to put a married transfer case set up in the truck also, any help on this would be great.
Has anybody done this before?

It will all work, but not any better then what you have as far as clearance. I would spent the cash on a spring lift.

Just switch the 79 parts under the 70. Body lifts aren't so hot.

I believe that if I put the 79 stuff under the 70 it will lift the 70 about 2 1/2". The 2 trucks sit about the same height now (the 79 is still complete). Even if I get 2" of lift will that wont be enough clearance off road would it? That's why I was thinking about installing a body lift. Will I have to cut the fenders up front to get the clearance?
About the married transfer setup, Do you guys know if the drivelines out of a 73-79 standard cab will work or do I just have to start from scratch?

Body lifts suck and aren't worth the money (even if they are free). If you are going to lift it, plan on a good suspension lift.

I don't understand why the 35" tires came off the 79, but won't clear the 70 with the same springs.

As highboy's and lowboys go (79 is a lowboy), highboys sit a good 2" higher than lowboys from the factory. For the highboy there is only one real front spring lift option, that's 4" springs. That makes a big truck that will tower over 35" tires. They actually fit with stock springs, but will rub if you have a wide tire like a 35X12.50. If the 79 clears 35" tires it likely has 6" springs which are the same exact springs as highboy 4" springs.

I haven't put the 79 differentials and springs in the 70 yet. I just took the tires off the 79 and put them on the 70. They are 35/12.5s.
The 79 was lifted when i bought it and according to the previous owner was factory lifted. So I don't know what it is supposed to be.
My concern is that after I put the 79 springs and diffs in the bump that I will run into problems with the tires rubbing in the front. I don't think they will be a problem going down the street but may be a problem with spring travel when off road.
Do you think i'm trying to rework the wheel putting the 79 stuff in the bump or do you think it's a good plan?

You won't have any problems. That's what most everyone does anyway.

There were never any factory lifted trucks. Maybe dealer installed, but it wasn't a Ford part unless the truck just got 77.5 and older front springs installed.

Slap those puppies under there and go. I have axles out of a 79 F350 under my bump and I am guessing around 4-6 inches of lift. I have the factory blocks(4") plus a 1" block in there that a previous owner put in. Those are coming out and putting a Sky shackle flip on. Anyway with the current setup it towers over my 36" TSL's and I am wanting to lower it about 2" to make it a bit more stable and run 39's.

but the frame on the dent is boxed in on the front that is a bonus plus when you swap the cab you can install the drive line first and do any mods that you want to then you know what you got in to it other than the bomper steering and brakes there are twenty or so bolts to take off
