trans linkage to steering column..

the bushing on the lever on the column that the trans. linkage hooks to is bad...I don't see it in my
Dennis Carpenter book...anyone know where I can get this?? Napa..auto zone?? where??

it might be C5TZ-7343-A everything i am seeing in the lmc catalog says its for 3 speed shift arms on the column. from pictures i have seen these may be the same as the 67 auto shift bushing. however in a comparison of the same years bushings from both the auto and 3 speed shift arm bushings the auto seems to be larger in the center.

after looking at more catalaogs. including npd mac's and the dentside lms catalog. all that is listed are the lm bushing with the same numbers as the bumpside lmc catalog. 43-7316

who sells the clips that keeps those rods in place on the transmission side? One of mine broke... Using a skinny C clip for now but want ot buy something better like the original. Looked at some catalogs like LMC and NPD and could not find a tranny linkage section at all Again, I need 2, one for each of the rods connecting to the transmission shift levers. Well, I have one good one and one broken one...

If you ask for e clips they probably had no idea what you were talking about. They could not find it on computer.Go back to parts store and look in the Help section yourself. You can usually buy a pack with different sizes in a pack.

Yeah, was at the help section with store clerk and I bought 2 packs - one was a pack of C clips youpush onand the other a pack ofround clips you puy on with special pliers (holes at the end)... Using one from pack with the holes on the ends but itis barely holdong on... Googled E clips and did not find any... just want to buy the right ones online or from catalog somewhere.

On my 70, there weren't any clips on the linkage. The bushings were nylon and they just snapped into grooves on the linkage.

Dorman has some good assortments, as do most "good" hardware stores. Come to think of it, I've even seen them at Lowe's...

Thanks 70_f100 - okay, so those are exactly the clips I bought. Got a pack with different sizes in the Help Section... None of them fit. One was real close but too small - could not get it on the rod. Ended up using one from the other pack which must be the C clips.... but again, not happy with that (too small and it looks like rod could pop out).

Not at home or I would take picture of an original clip. Looks like a large thin washer with a cutout to fit over the rod. It is not perfectly flat and 3 tabs sort of pop out that go into the groove at the end of the rod. When I was taking it off one of the tabs broke off... Surprised someone like NPD/LMC doesn't have them. Would love to buy the same ones.

On the linkage coming off the Z-bar Ford used a thin washer and a cotter pin instead...

I have found that most companies selling these grommets are selling hard plastic ones instead of the rubber ones they came with from the factory and thus are a super b**ch to install. I had to go several hardware stores to find the right grommet and the e-clips are easy to find usually in assortment packs or individually at Ace or True Value. If the e-clip is a little to big a pair of pliers can fix that just fine.
