My wife, Nephew and I planned to go camping in the country but I didn't have enough batteries out there to run lights and my CPAP machine. I decided to "borrow" the battery from my bump. On the way out we got pulled over for a license plate light out on my wife's suburban. Then got ticketed for the inspection sticker which had expired two months ago. Then the officer informed me that my driver's licence was invalid. He gave me a lesser citation for "no driver license" instead of "driving with an invalid license". I overlooked the fact that I had owed $260.00 dollars due on August 01, 2011 for the Driver Responsibility Program. A few years ago I got a ticked for no insurance. I had insurance but never fought the ticket so now I get to pay a surcharge for three years. Since I hadn't paid the surcharge or made a payment plan the license got suspended and I didn't even know. At least I didn't get busted while at work. I called my boss. He put me "out of service" until I get my DL reinstated. This could take at least a week.
Actually this is good karma because if I had gotten busted driving a commercial vehicle the consequences would have probably been a lot worse.
We stopped on the way home and spoke with the judge of that small town. She happens to be in her office on Saturday mornings. She said it would only cost me $40 dollars if I come back before Dec 9th if I get my license reinstated, and the inspection done as well as the fixing the light on the license plate.

Re: Karma
The surcharge wasn't past due until August. It probably just got suspended recently. It was a rough few months around that time. My mom was very sick and my wife was very pregnant. I didn't even know I owed the money. Or I had forgotten about it. Anyway, I am on a mini vacation now. Spending lots of time with my baby who will be 3 months old on Dec 1st.guerra wrote:Its odd no one checked your license while you were doing your training for your new driving job?

I haven't put the battery back yet. I guess I'm asking for trouble.sargentrs wrote:Did I read that right? You took the battery out of the bump and put it in a Chevy?! She's going to be so mad. How dare you!
