460 and a c6 (the final chapter)
What vehicle or year range would be my best bet to look for to get a C6 that will bolt behind a 460 but also work with the factory column shift in our trucks? I am ditching the Lincoln transmission.

The transmission that you have will work. Or you can get one out of another passenger car. What trans did you have in the truck originally?
I believe that the trans that I used was out of a big block Cougar. I used the extension housing, output shaft and selector shaft from the original C6 that was bolted to the 360. Everything bolted in.

Re: 460 and a c6 (the final chapter)
I think it originally had a c6, but I got the truck with no motor or trans.
Then im still lacking the column shift selector and kickdown on the side of the case. Ive got the rods tho.
In my mind trying to find a big block c6 for a truck would be better.

Re: 460 and a c6 (the final chapter)
A C6 from a truck will have more clutches in the drums than the Lincoln, and the valve body in the truck will offer a bit of a diff shift feel than the car, which was designed for soft shifts..
Older folks who drive Lincolns do not want to feel it shift.
Of course if you add a shift program to the car trans, you can create the shift feel that you want..........Donnie

I used the valve body from the truck C6 and installed a TransGo shift reprogrammer kit. It shifts real nice now

Re: 460 and a c6 (the final chapter)
Unfortunately that is not correct. The Lincoln trans has the most clutches used in a c6 except for a Cobra Jet. The big heavy car needs more clutch surface so that had the most clutches and the most sun gears etc..... The Lincoln does have a softer feel due to the valve body and torque convertor. The biggest drawback may be the tailshaft mount as big Lincolns used a dual mount that can't be had for replacement and a regular mount won't fit and the tailshaft housing can't be changed unless you tear down the whole trans and replace the shaft too because the Lincoln is longer than any other C6. EXCUSE ME, BUT AS SOMEONE WHO HAS WORKED IN THE TRANS INDUSTRY SINCE THE EARLY '60'S I FEEL QUALIFIED TO CORRECT YOUR MIS INFORMATION...20 YEARS WITH FO -MO-CO & ABOUT 25 YEARS IN MY OWN SHOP BUILDING BOTH TRANSMISSIONS & TORQUE CONVERTERS.
IT IS MIS-LEADING TO THE GROUP WHEN YOU STATE THAT THE LINCOLN C6 DRUMS , BOTH FOREWARD & REV-HIGH HAVE MORE CLUTCHES THAN A C6 BUILT FOR A TRUCK.
I HAVE WELDED MORE SNAPRING GROOVES IN 4 CLUTCH DRUMS & CUT A NEW SNAP RING GROOVE SO I COULD STUFF THE DRUM WITH MORE CLUTCHES THAT I CARE TO REMEMBER.
ALSO, ALL C6 TRANNYS, CAR,TRUCK, OR OTHERWISE USE THE SIMPSON GEAR TRAIN WHICH HAS ONLY ONE SUN GEAR

Re: 460 and a c6 (the final chapter)
You got me on the sun gear, used the wrong term, the Lincoln has more planetary gears driving the sun gear but being a trans guy you already knew what I was talking about because you already knew that the Lincoln had more than most truck trans (my bad, thinking faster than I can type sometimes). As far as the clutches, as an expert I am sure you know that 71 to 79 the F100-F350 C6's have 4 forward clutches while the Lincoln has 5 (Like the CJ and 427 trans), that F100-F350 C6's have 3 direct clutches while the Lincoln has 4 (the CJ and 427 trans have 5), and that F100-F350 C6's and Lincolns have 5 reverse clutches (the CJ and 427 trans have 6) all in all I'd say that means the Lincoln has more clutches.
