Help ID This Locker

Post by Madman »

iGuys,
Pulled my Dana 44 open knuckle disc brake differential apart, and it has this third member, which appears to be a locker. I think it is an older detroit locker, but not sure, as the newer lockers have more fins (see picture, a new detroit locker seems to have more fins). Not sure where to ID the manufacturer. I will disassemble and inspect when I'm off work next week

And another clearer view. There is hand etching on the side there saying "913A128 7M9", but I can't find a part number, a picture on the web similar, or a manufacturer on the case!

OK.. I'm gonna go back to my original guess its a early version of a Torsen, which I think is the granddaddy of the Tru-Trac.. look at the similarity's in the part # here http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DTL-913A592/

I'm thinking the the 3 large bolts holding it together are axles for the helical gears inside.

check out a google image search for torsen to get an idea of what I'm thinking... but Ive been wrong before

I searched all over for the Torsen, but I see similarities, nothing concrete. The 6 flangers on the one side looks similar to a Dana 60 Detroit locker, but not exactly. Kinda driving me nuts!
I see most lockers have opennings in the side, or pins through them...but not this one.

I have the answer finally.....I contacted Eaton (who makes Detroit lockers now) and they say it is an older true trac!

That's pretty cool. Tru-trac's are great.
