I have a '68 2wd short bed that is not going to be anything but a hot rod. I have other trucks for hauling. It was originally a manual and someone installed a c6 with a floor shifter. The guy I bought the truck from said he thought the motor in the truck was a 351m but he wasn't sure. The transmission has gone out and I want to put a top loader manual back in. I have a couple '93 351w engines and was going to build one for the truck with a little bit of a lope. I have a t5 out of a '92 mustang sitting in my shed. But from what I have read the t5 puts the shifter too far aft. Does anyone know what kind of transmissions will fit the '93 351w's? I was reading about a m5od but it is a hydraulic clutch. I want something that won't be real difficult to install. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't see how it could put the...wait a sec. If you use bucket seats the shifter would be just about perfect I would think. I guess with a bench it might be too far back...but I just can't see it. Measure a NP435 from the front of the bellhousing and measure the T-5, if it is close it should work even with a bench seat. If that will not work, look at the 5 speed out of the early 90's Camaro's, I think it is a side shift. (assuming you want to go with a 5 speed not a 4 speed.) If you got the cash, get a T-56 6 speed out of a Camaro, Vette, or Viper. I know there is a company making the bellhousing, but I don't remember who.
When in doubt, hit the gas. It may not be the right answer, but at least it ends the suspense!!

http://keislerauto.com/ Check this place out. They can put a kit together for everything you'd need to throw a sweet 5 speed overdrive tranny behind anything! The guy quoted me at $2400 for tranny and bellhousing to bolt up to a FE plus all the doo-dads needed to hook up your original speedo and do a hydrolic clutch if you wanted. It would be plenty strong for a well built FE or 351W or whatever you wanna throw in there. The tranny is rated up to 600 hp and 600 ft/lbs. There's a shifter relocation kit that would fit very nicely with a bench seat if that's the setup you have.

I had even thought about doing buckets. But when I started researching had forgot about it and was only looking at what I have now.

Buckets aren't that hard. If you are going for racing, then you can get racing bucket of course. Or go to the wrecking yard and peek in a few grocery getters, might find a set you like for not much. I know a guy picked up a sweet set of buckets out of a late model cougar and put those in his pickup, man were they comfy! I have put mustang buckets in a dentside, and a set out of a little ricer in an s-10.
If you are going to be doing more cruising than racing, go find a wrecked van and steal the captain's chairs out of it for your bump. THAT is riding in style! I have a set in my current dent, they are sweet! My bump is going to get a set as soon as I get around to it.

put a ZF or M5R2 in it and be done. Hydraulic clutch is not difficult if you have basic fab knowledge needed to switch a different transmission in.
