I think my '67 F250 Camper Special originally came with a C4, but the PO swapped in a C6. Will any C4 or C6 tranny fit, or were there differences between Ford cars and trucks? How do I find for sure what tranny came installed by the factory? And is there any reason to really care what it originally had?

Re: C6 Fitment Question
I have the 352. From further reading, it sounds like it probably had the MX, which is different from the C4 or C6, and pre-dates the FMX. But I can't find ANY info on the MX, and few things about the C4. So, where to go from here?

Re: C6 Fitment Question
MX is an outdated trans. The C6 is a better trans. You will need a
C6 with an FE bell housing pattern.

Re: C6 Fitment Question
Are there markings on a tranny to specify what bell housing pattern it has? Another option is to rebuild my current tranny. Is this something that a guy can do in his garage over a weekend, or is this something that should be attacked by a seasoned professional?
On edit, I just checked my VIN plate. It specified "G", which is a Cruise-O-Matic, but I'm not sure that tells me anything.

Re: C6 Fitment Question
A lot of times going by your VIN is questionable as so many of our trucks have been "molested" and things changed.
Here's the transmission ID tutorial, hope it helps:
