Can you still get these new?

Have you ever been caught up in the moment and destroyed something during removal then afterwards thought "Uh oh, I hope I can get those". :eek: I was trying to remove my axle bearings and wound up having to cut 'em off. In the process, I destroyed these. Not a seal, it's a thick, heavy, shoulder washer looking thing. Do they sell them aftermarket or am I going to have to go to the Parts Wanted section? Anybody know the Ford part number or official name? I've searched Advance, Rockauto, DC and NPD and they don't even show them in their parts diagrams and I'm not sure which parts are which in the diagrams here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

first, what kind of axle is it?

if a Dana - front or rear and what type?
Got Ford?

Sorry, didn't think. It's a Ford 9", 2WD, 28 spline. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... ential.jpg I believe it's part number 1180 in that diagram.

Thats your bearing retainer clip and should come with new bearing kit(ask to make sure)that you can buy at your local Napa(thats were I got mine)or wherever you prefer

http://completeoffroad.com/c-64309-ford ... seals.html ....looks like its pretty standard to include retainer. Now I gotta ask....how big was the press you were trying to press these off with :? I do believe you've gotta cut that retaining ring off first to stand any chance off getting the bearing to budge and Heat is your best friend.
Image Hard to see,but the retainer is there. They press on alot easier than off.....make sure you clean up any burr's or scratches from the cuttin wheel :thup:

I've seen guys almost killed trying to press off 9" bearing before! I've personally had a 20 ton press maxed out before the retainer cut loose and flew across the shop! :eek:
And I'll never let another torch anywhere close to an axle shaft of mine, ride around a few years with a warped axle shaft due to that and it'll change your mind also guys. :2cents:
Summitt has them in Atlanta Currie part#CE-9005TW, Jeg's also has them.
Small cheap replaceable part versus an axle shaft for over$120. :thup:

Edit: I linked the part numbers for the axle shaft retainer plate above. Like Jerry said the retainers themselves come with the new bearing usually and can also be easily had.

I tried using a 20 ton with retainer and bearing....wouldn't budge....cut the retainer off(with torch)and tried again with just the bearing..still nothin.In the end I torched both sides......just the bearing&retainer.

:hmm: thats a big chunk of metal that should've never got that hot just cutting those off :doh:

Wouldn't a sharp chisel knock that off pretty quick? Rather use that than a torch. That being said I am not good with a torch.lol

I used my 4-1/2" electric angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut horizontally to remove the top edge of the retainer and the outer race of the bearing to give me a flat surface. Then took my 2-1/2" air cut off tool to cut straight down through both, slowly, until I could spread them with a chisel and they spun right off. I tried just a sharp chisel first and it just bounced off. Those things are HARD! When I hit inner race of the bearing, after I cut a groove in it, it just broke off little shards. Must've been the heat of cutting on 'em loosened the grip.

If they're hardened like I expect them to be and Randy said they are, you'll bust a good chisel before you even scratch the hardened part.

Ok, after over an hour of searching, I've come to the conclusion that I need the 8M-1180 rear axle bearing retainer. It may come with the bearings I buy but I wanted to make sure it was available if not. Also wanted to know the official name and part number so I can confirm with the parts store when I get the bearings. Any part number gurus out there confirm that?
