1970 F-100 + free 1998 Expedition = ??

Post by atye »

So, I have a 1970 F-100 and am about to pick up a free 1998 Ford Expedition. The '98 is running, driving, fully operational, but has a screwed up title. My friend has owned it for years and let it sit, but now cannot store it anymore. I put a battery in it last year and drove it for a week or so, it ran perfect. Anyways, I will be getting it for free to do with as I please this weekend.

What would YOU do if you had a 1970 F-100 longbed (302, AT) and a 1998 4.6l 2WD Expedition?

I just read a thread on a guy that swapped his bumpside body onto 2002 pick up frame. I'll see if i can find it. I swapped a 48 truck onto an explorer frame. Thing you want to check out do the expeditions use the same frame as the pickups? On my explorer the frames get wider and lower than the ranger pickup frame.

found it hope its ok to post another forum here.

That is exactly what I was looking for, thanks.

I don't know if I have the guts to try that, though, plus, my current F-100 is a little too nice to butcher up. Maybe I can find a donor body in the future?

it is also posted on this forum too http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a

Down south where you are I'm sure you can find a nice body up here in the rust belt only thing that saved my 69 was that it was originally was from Virginia was stored for 15 years in a pole barn and only has around 8k on it. Is it the expeditions that have the funky rear suspensions? I forget

Yup... you need to do a '68 on a '98... sounds about right, once you're done with it, nothin' will scare ya.

I'd sell the expedition for whatever I could get for it title or not and put something else in the bump.

I've had a few triton powered rigs (including a 98 expedition actually) and would never dream of swapping one into anything. The 4.6 is gutless and both it and the 5.4 suck fuel like crazy.

I drive pretty easy and can get low to mid 20's or better in almost any diesel pickup I've owned, but the best triton V8 mileage I ever got was on a vacation trip with the cruise on 55, no AC for a record 14 MPG.

I will say they are a very easy engine to troubleshoot and repair. I like how they're built, I'm just blown away they get such terrible mileage.

I think you'd get way better mileage and power with an EFI 300 six from an early 90's Ford than a 4.6 Triton with a 4R70W.

Heh... how about a '90's 4.9 I-6 (300) and a 4R70W (AWD) on a '97 Mountaineer frame? That would be my '67 M100 project...
