I know gm had a 400, i was told ford did as well. But im new to the ford world so im still learning up. The FE, Series 335/385 (351m, 400, 429, and 460), and the small block (inline, 351c, 351w, 302, 289). The 351m and 400 were a variation of the 351c. Do an internet search for more details.
The cruise-a-matic to AOD were continuous development of the same design. Each was built for a specific purpose, some weaker, some stronger.
The (mx-hd in 1967) FMX can be rebuilt but upgrades are limited. The C6 is better for modifications. It all depends what you are trying to do and your budget.
