On to the crossmember. I had to move it back about six inches for things to fit which puts it in the way of the gas tank. So now I need to trim the crossmember at the drivers side.

As you can see I need to take out a substantial portion of what I assume are structural bends. Can I remove that much if I weld a piece back in?

I'm planning to weld a flat piece in vertically at the red line and trim the flange at the blue line. I could probably even use a piece of angle as long as I turn the angle to the middle. Would either of these work? Any help is appreciated.
