So truck has a 390 I believe. Prob early to late 70s. I was told from a guy here at work that that was an option. Im only seeing 352s....
anyway it has a B and M floor shifter. I can get it in the 1st and 2nd gear but not 3rd! I need 3rd . Highway speeds. ect,
was told to change fluids and filter. Any tips from the exp pros? Truck hasn't been tabbed since 2001.
so prob not driven much since than.
thanks

Braaaaap!
I think it is the c6. Don't know for sure.
Guy at work said he had the same problem with his old c6 tranny and b and m shifter.
funny u said that.
this Saturday and sunday ill have some more free time to poke around and under the truck. Will it say it on the tranny or on the door badge vin# stuff?
A shifter is cheaper than a whole new trans.

Don't trust the door badge. Mine said my truck came with a Cruise-o-Matic. Somewhere in the last 50 years, someone swapped in a C6. You can tell it's a C6 by the shape of the pan and the number of bolts. Off hand, I don't remember, but you can google it. Also, a C6 has the bell housing as part of the casting; it's not a separate piece like it is on a C4.
Also, all of the FE engines have a big "352" cast into them. If you want to see if you have a 390, rotate the engine until cylinder #1 is at TDC. Then, remove the spark plugs from #1 and #4, stick a dowel down to the top of each piston, and measure the difference. I forget the delta (again, you can google it), but it should tell you if you have a 390 or a 352/360.
