And yet another...
Yup another newb. I'm new to Fords (not really into Fords
). but i'm looking at a really good deal right now. Its a 69 F-100 2wd, 360 with 390 heads, 3 speed on the column converted to floor shift, dual exhaust with glasspacks. All it needs is either a starter solenoid ($7) or the connections cleaned. for $200. needs some TLC. that's all the details i have on it right now. but hopefully i'll be getting that soon. I already have a lot of plans for it. Nice site btw!

re: And yet another...
thanks for the Welcome everyone. I will definitely get pics up when I can. I know how car forums are, I belong to a few others. Thread is worthless without pics, right?
.
I was wondering what are some common issues to look out for with these trucks? I'm not real familiar with them and I want to learn all I can. Also what are some good sites for parts, restoration and custom? Thanks

Welcome to the site. If you go to the site map there is a links page with tons of vendors supplying resto and custom parts. Like any old vehicle, rust is the one thing to really look out for. In these trucks cab mounts, and floors are common area's w/ issues. on the upside, they make repro sheetmetal for pretty much every part of the truck. And finding any original 40 y/o truck w/out any rust is not too common anyway.

Yes, cab mounts rust out always. Up in the roof by the drip rail can rust also, on a truck that has been sitting for a long time.
Also, If your gauges aren't reading correctly (ie: fuel gauge) it is correctable, and not a bad set of gauges or sending units. An adjustment is needed on the back of the gauge cluster. I'm not sure if this is the case with all years. I do know it is true with the '71's though.

Cool, thanks a lot guys. I figured with the rust. I haven't actually seen it yet, but I'm hoping it's not too bad. It's definitely good to hear about the sheetmetal. I can't wait to get the truck and start tearing into it.

Hello and welcome, Low4Life. You better watch out, you start wrenching on that truck and the next thing you know, you'll be as big a Ford Fanatic as any of us
these trucks have a way of doing that to you

You have to work on trucks when you live in a place called Mechanicsville. It's tradition, isn't it?
Welcome to the site! Sounds like a good starting point for a project! One other place to check for rust is the area on the radiator support where it mounts to the frame. Aftermarket supports are available, but they are kind of pricey. But if you only paid $200 for the truck, you have more for new goodies right?
Some of the members here don't have a whole lot left of their original truck, it's all been replaced!![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)
