Looking at the rod going from the steering column to the tranny, I can't figure out how to get the rod off the lever at the column. That is on the 77 f-150 donor vehicle that is sacrificing its engine and tranny for my 72 F-250 to live on. I am also wondering which rod is better to use on the 72. I am taking the tranny to a shop to have the tail housing swapped, so they could change the levers and such on the donor to be 72 style if that is better/easier. Any help appreciated.

Kurt, there's a nylon bushing that holds the shifting rod on to the shifting arm attached to the steering column. I've used a pair of screwdriver blades, in tandem, and by twisting them, the arm usually pops right off...after a LOT of swearing. It's usually 50/50 whether or not the bushing can be saved and reused or not. A little heat applied on the bushing from a hair dryer helps to soften the bushing a little.
I'm using my 1970 C6 rod so no experience whether or not a Dent rod will/would work.

Thanks Forrestbump, I got it off. I will wait until I get the engine and tranny out of my 72 to decide which one to use.
