what color to paint it?

Post by rwilly »

I am mulling around the idea of totally redoing my 69 F350 flatbed dump. Originally it was Empire Yellow, not exactly my first choice of colors, but I like things stock and as close to OEM as possible. Why? Because I like these old trucks as they were.
To keep the originality of it, I should repaint it Empire Yellow, but I really like some of the other solid colors. Blue is always good, Red is too. Its a base model with no trim on it, the grille is aluminum, the bumper is painted, not chrome, the drive wheels are white, I just put new steers on it that are unpainted and I like the look.
Do you think it would make any difference at all what color it is?
Did these "commercial" trucks come in all colors, or were they limited to Yellow? (It was previously titled as commercial)

It is currently blue, at least where the paint is still sticking.

Another member here has the same truck painted in red and looks good.

Life is short. You might as well have things the way YOU want. For now it's your truck. Somebody else will own it some day and they can paint it whatever color they want.

Yes I would go with the color I wanted. My 68 is the original Gold and I am certainly not going with that color when I paint it. I am thinking maybe old school Root Beer Brown.

Me thinks you guys are correct. When the time comes, I will go with whatever sounds good at the time.

I would look at the color charts for 69 and pick out the stock color I like and go with that. I like the boxwood green and harbor blue. I do know of a F350 that has its original red that is nice too. To me the boxwood green gives these trucks that period feel. Good luck send pictures.

Absolutely spot on.

Ours is a light green, but used to be darker green, white and who knows what else. Since the interior is the light green, we decided to do a medium dark metallic green with a softer, not so stark, white top. Doing corrosion control now.

I will probably go red with white top. The bumper will be white and the sideboards are white too.
The wheels I picked up are unpainted and kind of a rust color, I like the way they look. I have white wheels on it now and I think they are a little over the top.
